What sort of clients do you advise?

I advise domestic and international clients and projects to Spanish and foreign companies and individuals within the yachting industry: commercial and private yacht owners, yacht managers, yacht builders, management and crew companies, tax representatives, marinas, shipyards, insurers, financiers, etc. Being the advisor of the Spanish Yachting Association (ANEN) is one of my jobs.

How did you end up in superyacht law?

I was born in Ibiza, I lived and studied in Barcelona for 11 years and I live in Mallorca since 1999 so the sea have been always of great interest to me. I studied Law and Economics and I always saw an opportunity in the yachting industry. Working for almost 20 years at Garrigues, a leading European tax and legal services firm with more than 1,700 lawyers around the world have been also a key.

What makes a good superyacht lawyer?

High technical skills and continuous effort are essential to a lawyer’s job, I consider that being a lawyer and also economist helps to have a clear global understanding of the law and the role of each player operating within the industry. Key issues are also being very proactive, have a very practical approach to the client’s projects and worries and ability to communicate but, above all, passion for yachts.

What do you most like about your job?

I love the yachting industry, I am passionate so I really enjoy my job and the opportunity to meet very interesting people.

What one piece of advice would you give to potential yacht buyers?

It is essential to consider sincerely which will be the future use and the purpose of buying a yacht to find precisely what you want. This will be also the basis of the yacht-owning structure and it is important to take proper and specialised advice, it always save money in the mid and long term.
