Brodosplit building the biggest sailing boat in the world

The largest shipyard in Croatia, Brodosplit, are currently building the largest sailing yacht in the world.

She has been commissioned by Star Clippers Ltd, whose current fleet consists of Royal Clipper, Star Clipper and Star Flyer. Brodosplit CEO, Tomislav Debeljak, said: “The successful execution of this Agreement, by support from Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development, will contribute to sustainable business operation of Brodosplit Group and preservation of its core business activity while at the same time ensuring winning of relevant references and entrance of Brodosplit on the growing sailing boat market.”

Clipper Hull 483 is being built based on the model of France II which was built in 1911 by Chantiers et Ateliers de la Gironde. She will be 162 metres long and 18.5 metres wide. She will have five masts and sails and an overall surface area of 6,347 square metres.

She will be delivered in the summer of 2017.

Hull 483 will accommodate 300 guests and 150 crew members. She has three swimming pools on board, one of which can be used for diving.

She will be the first Croatian vessel to be installed with the Safe Return to Port system. This means that all key equipment on the yacht will be duplicated in case of defect, fire or flooding so it will be able to return to port from a distance of up to 2000 nautical miles; the furthest point from sea to land.

The yacht will also comply with Ice Class Requirements enabling her to sail in the Arctic and Antarctic regions.

Star Clippers Ltd. is present at European and American markets and is known for ships that are faithfull replica of classic sailing boats.

Brodosplit have also recently delivered their second superyacht, 60 metre Katina
