An interview with Olivier Blanchet
Superyacht Investor: How long have you been in the industry?
Olivier Blanchet: I’ve been working as a maritime banker for more than 14 years starting with Shipping Finance and launching the yacht finance offer dedicated to our clients in 2006.
Superyacht Investor: What is your favourite superyacht?
Oliver Blanchet: It is difficult to chose one and I don’t want to make a “big mistake” as we have seen recently in the Oscars Ceremony! Three names come to my mind:
1) Cloudbreak: because she represents the big shift of what is considered luxury today: Exploration but with a 5 star service
2) Yersin: because she represents a special place or experience, where you can share your time and cruise with scientists on board. Everything has also been optimised in terms of carbon foot print.
3) A: for her innovative design. When you see her for the first time, you cannot forget her.
Superyacht Investor: What is the biggest challenge you face in your job?
Olivier Blanchet: At each transaction, it is an “all-in” game for the entire yacht finance team. We put our reputation on the table, as well as our ability to deliver the best service and provide a new experience to our client by adapting and structuring our offer to the client’s needs. Our clients are highly demanding.
Superyacht Investor: What one piece of advice would you give to potential yacht buyers?
Olivier Blanchet: A yacht is your lover of the seas; she is demanding, and requests a lot of time and money! A bank such as BNP Paribas, can offer support to help optimise your time, your money and coordinate various actions to give you a supplemental breath on board.
Superyacht Investor: What are you most looking forward to about Superyacht Investor London?
Olivier Blanchet: Listening to everybody in order to better serve our clients, and exchanging ideas to develop the growth of the yacht industry since only 10% of the UHWNI have a yacht meanwhile 3/5 of the earth are oceans and seas.
