Burgess has opened up a new office in Shanghai in partnership with Beijing yacht servicing company IYAT.

Two years after the launch of its Asian business arm in 2015, Burgess is establishing a new base in Shanghai, headed up by its Asian chairman Jean-Marc Poullet.

Three of IYAT’s senior staff members will be joining the Burgess Shanghai team: IYAT’s founder and CEO of IYATm Rock Wang, independent charter broker Fay Duan, and architect and engineer Leon Li.

Poullet said: “We are delighted to welcome three additional highly qualified Chinese yachting professionals to the global Burgess family. Rock, Fay and Leon all bring strong yachting and technical experience, plus outstanding local market knowledge to the Burgess team in Asia.

“They will work closely with the Hong Kong team and leverage Burgess’ global expertise to deliver the best possible service to Chinese yacht owners and charterers.”

Burgess and Asia

Burgess launched operations in Asia in 2015 with the opening of its Singapore office. Since then, it has opened up shop in Hong Kong and Tokyo.

Its work in Asia mainly focuses on charter and servicing, promoting Asian charter destinations and Asian-based charter yachts, as well as introducing Asian customers to established Mediterranean and Caribbean destinations.

Burgess is not expecting fast results in Asia but is establishing its presence early and continuing to expand. Echoing this, Jonathan Beckett, Burgess Group CEO, said: “With the opening of the Shanghai office, Burgess continues its strategy to slowly but steadily expand its operations in Asia. We are not expecting any regional market acceleration in the short term but will continue to develop our team, networks and relationships. We are confident that our commitment to the Asian market will be rewarded in the long-term.”
